We took the Gilligan’s Island namesake “3 Hour Tour” today. I’ll barely refrain from comments about Ginger’s particular role, here. :-) The tour is $70 per person and from our perspective, worth every penny; and it’s not just for tourists! If you’ve ever wanted to check out the Seqway Personal Transportation System, this is a great way to go for an extended test drive in real world conditions. Our tour guide was Chris and he did an outstanding job. He provided an impressive amount of local information and folklore. Several of our tour-mates were probably into their mid 50’s to mid 60’s which was awesome. All mastered the Segway within the 30 minute training period provided and were “turning 360’s” with no problem. Riding a Segway is probably appropriate for any adult between the ages of 8 and 80, given the minimum dexterity to step off the device in the case of unexpected circumstance. Overall, the entire experience at SF Electric Tour Company was extremely well structured and executed.

I'm a Segway owner so I really didn't need any training. However, I did watch carefully how the staff training the guests and it was a very successful process. They had everyone in my tour feeling comfortable with the Segway in a very short period of time. I was amazed at that! Our tour took place when there was a LOT of tourist out and about along the route. The tour guide did a fantastic job of sheparding his flock and ensured that there were no mishaps in a very difficult environment. I highly recommend this company and their tours!

My 12 year old son and I enjoyed every minute of this tour, and wish you had a longer tour since we were having so much fun. He can't wait to try a Segway tour somewhere else, but I suspect that it will be hard to beat the beautiful views and weather that we had for the San Fran tour. We did the 4 pm tour and the city was absolutely beautiful at this time of day. It was also neat touring the city with others from all over the world. The tour guides (I don't remember their names but one was from San Diego and the other was from outside of Atlanta, GA) were great and made the tour so much fun. Very cool for young and old alike. The entire staff was friendly and made the entire experience enjoyable.

This tour was probably the most interesting tour I have ever taken. For starters, the Segway is an incredible transportation means and fun to ride. The design of the tour was also good in that we were familiarized with the Segway and then shortly after the tour began we were allowed free time. That was when I really felt comfortable with the device. The speaker on each Segway was great. It allowed each of us to hear what the tour guide was saying. So many times in tour groups much is missed because you are at the rear of the group but that was not the case on this tour. And finally, the route taken was very good. It presented the immediate wharf area and branched out enough to wet the appetite for more. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and look forward to doing the advanced tour in the future.

We took the San Francisco Beginners Tour. The training was superb! The instructors provided just the right amount of information and guidance, and at the right pace for everyone. They did not overwhelm--we first had some interaction with the segway, THEN we watched a video. This sequence made the video more relevant as we could relate the video to our interaction. THEN we received more detailed training on the segway. Whomever designed the training did an excellent job as did the instructors/tour guides who executed the training sequence. By the time we began the tour we felt confident and at ease with the segway. This was wonderful because the major part of this experience is, frankly, the fun of traveling on the segway. Also, once the tour began we first spent alot of time on the Pier which not only was beautiful but because it was protected from street vehicles and pedestrians, it was a good starting point to get us more accustomed to the segway. And throughout the tour, we felt that the instructors/guides really looked out for our safety, particularly as we were navigating through busy intersections. Everyone in our family felt this tour was a marvelous and fun experience!

The Segway tour is a great way to see San Francisco. It is a very unique experience, and I wish the tour could be longer. I feel that the rules of the road in California, and the crowded areas take a little away from the experience, but I don't know what could be done about that.

The Segways feel strange for 10-15 minutes, then over the first hour or so it becomes second nature & you don't even think about what you're doing to control them -- just have to get through that initial strangeness. Also have to get used to being the center of attention for folks watching you ride by. Nice tour route, starting with broad flat area (a long, wide pier near the Aquatic Center)

This was one of our favorite activities on my children age 17 and age 12 and my vacation to CA including Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and San Francisco. My son is age 12 and loved it! He is 5'5" and about 130 lbs and I was a little concerned about his size and ability to adapt and navigate safely. The training was very good and the Segway's are very, very easy to learn and use. I give this experience my highest recommendation.

Having done a segway in Paris, I definitely wanted to do it again. If the segways weren't so expensive, I'd BUY one. Loved the tour. Carla (was that her name?) was wonderful. Helpful to me since I needed a little extra help. She taught me how to get OFF of the segway in a better way. I had trouble with that in Paris, but Carla showed me what I was doing wrong. I've recommended segway tours to many people - now I'll have a second tour "under my belt" to suggest here in the U.S.

The idea of getting around on a Segway was initiatlly a bit daunting, but we were all pleasantly surprised how quickly we adapted to the technology and gained confidence. Within 15 minutes of use I was racing my 16 year old daughter at maximum speed! It was the highlight of our time in San Francisco.

Really fun way to see an old city like San Francisco. Unlike a tour bus or boat, the Segway allows the visitor to travel down narrow passageways, like the piers, boardwalks and the walkway around the old fisherman's chapel on the pier. But you can cover much more ground than a walking tour. It also allows you to "feel" the hilly terrain more than one would in a bus, but without the exhaustion of walking it. The one thing that was a little tricky was the tour starts at a slow speed (4 miles an hour) and then speeds up. I liked the slower speed, but after some extra practice out on one of the piers, felt OK about the increased speed. Our tour guide, who was a graphic designer as well, was extremely understanding and patient and I would do it again in a NY minute.

This is a wonderful way to see the sights of San Francisco! The tour takes you through the picturesque waterside, and up to North Beach where you have an opportunity for a gelato. The return route highlights the Marina district, and takes you directly through the most picturesque part of the embarcadero. The guides are friendly and knowlegable, and the Segway machines are top quality. Your safety is paramount, and the guides make sure you are thoroughly trained and ready for your segway adventure before you set out to explore this wonderful city! Friendly and patient instructors made for positive outlook during training, even if it took a while for some of the group members to get used to the machines. However, at one point, my mom was questioned about whether she was able to take the tour because of her initial difficulty maneuvering, which caused her to worry and almost get the 50% refund for opting out of the tour. Once convinced by everyone else in the group to just go ahead, she was perfectly fine and had a great time. She commented that had she taken the instructor's advice and given up, she would've regretted it since the whole experience turned out to be so easy and extremely fun. Based on this, I would hope that the instructors are able to put a little more faith in the intuitive nature of how the machine operates. I understand the need for caution, but sometimes a little encouragement is all we need during the learning process to catch on and cross the threshold.

A Segway is a great way to tour and get highlights of what the city has to offer. I felt the tour guides adjusted the tour to accomodate the comfort and skill level of the participants. The group was split in two, and although one group had individuals who were not comfortable on the Segway, that did not hold up our group. The guides split the groups and we were allowed to move ahead and not be held back.

The Segways themselves are a very special experience - they respond to your slightest shift in balance - extremely responsive. I loved the free time on the Horseshoe dock to learn more about how to use it before we headed out into traffic. The tour guide was funny and informative - she was like a mother duck with her ducklings once we did finally get out into the city itself. The only comment I would have is that I got the impression that the last 30 minutes or so were time-wasting minutes (that's the only way I can describe it). She led us around the docks, by the fish houses, here and there without much direction. But really that is a minimal comment and not meant as a criticism. You MUST take this tour. It was one of the most enjoyable adventures I have ever had on vacation. Worth every penny. I took my 16 year old son (who did not think it would be fun) and he had a blast. After a brief training session we took off and the Segway was so intuitive that it became part of your body. So easy and fun. The guide was funny and instructive about SF history. We motored along about 10 mph along the wharf and city streets very safely. As our guide said, this is the only tourist attraction where WE became a tourist attraction. Dress warm (they do provide jackets and gloves) and wear sneakers. I am recommending this tour to everyone, including the concierge of our hotel.

The tour route was very interesting and included some spots that we would not have seen otherwise. Great experience!! Although I've been to San Francisco a number of times, this was a really unique way to see parts of the city in an entirely new and different manner. Our guide was fantastic and very helpful with both the technical input regarding the operation of the Segways, as well as the narrative about the sights along the way. I had been a little worried about some of the online reviews about how short the tour would be, but it actually didn't feel at all short and in the end there's no question that it was easily worth the cost. My only suggestion would be to keep the "down time" at stops shorter so that you can extend the distance covered and places seen. We clearly were the envy of everyone walking on foot, riding bikes and even those in cars!!! Can't wait to go back for the more advanced tour..... I would highly recommend this tour!!!

For those who have seen Segway but not had any chance of trying it out, this is a good way to do it. The tour operator made sure that the route is safe. And this builds one's confidence and experience level in using the machine. Plus, it is a great way to know the city of SF without "much effort." You also become a tourist attraction of some sort, too, since other tourists tend to take pictures of you and your group zipping by. Overall, it's a fun experience.

What a great experience. First, Carla and Galen both were excellent guides and knew how to add fun to the language of the tour. I appreciated their humor on all counts. Second and most important to me, though, was the riding of the Segway itself. It's difficult to explain/teach the how-to of the mechanics of the machine---sort of like trying to teach a person to ride a bicycle using only words---so the initial hands-on training and the loop out on the pier for reinforcement were both necessary and fun. What a trip!! I'd do the whole thing over in a heartbeat, except I'd do the night tour first and the Saulsalito one next. Loved the wings/pin; it's proudly displayed on my coat collar. I'm just waiting for someone to ask me about it so I can launch into a promo for Segway Tours. LOL.
